Escape Ladder Brooch
It is quite common to see some form of ladders mounted to the exterior walls of old multi-story buildings as a retrofitted solution of alternative emergency escape. Whether these ladders are planted on the building without much thoughts or carefully designed to complement, they indisputably enriched the original building façade or even a streetscape in peculiar ways.
A piece of jewellery in some way shares the parallel nature of these escape ladders: being an alternative as well as an add-on to an existing surface. I chose to represent these intriguing parallels in a literal form, believing the piece will enrich the wearer in unique ways.
