Contour Studs

I was staring at a cardboard contour model from my university years that is still sitting on my bookshelf and wondered at this strange and abstract way of representing the reality of the landform. The way it is constructed gives it a distinctive and poetic character, while carrying the real world information of a particular piece of land.

This random thought inspired me to construct a jewellery piece as a scaled contour model to represent a place that I encounter daily - Mt Eden. Not only am I able to look at this beautiful dormant volcano from my apartment every day, I can now own and wear a little bit of it with me.

Body is mostly sterling silver with one layer of brass, and sterling silver ear posts. About 16mm wide by 16mm tall, depth varies as the contour slopes.
